When December falls right on the heels of Thanksgi

When December falls right on the heels of Thanksgiving it is always a bit of a challenge for me. This year I missed having that week to make the transition between the two seasons and felt a sense of urgency trying to get the Christmas decorations put up over the weekend. Which is not really the headspace I like to be in during that process.

It’s not just this weekend though - the fact of the matter is that the last few months I feel like I have been racing the clock in just about every aspect of my life and I am coming into December a little worn and ragged around the edges.

So this month my goal is simply to breathe. To slow down and pause and savor the little moments of delight and wonder and joy and peace - the little blessings and gifts of this special season.

The week in photos. 🍁🌸🎄🌰

It’s an interesting mashup of seasons for me right now. We celebrated Thanksgiving with peak fall color. Tripp hung up the Christmas lights a week ago. We still have a few summer annuals hanging on in my front flowerbed. Plus I have a box of tulip bulbs I need to plant.

Past, present, and future. A little bit of everything all at once.

I’m sure there’s some kind of lesson for me here, but today I’m just feeling so, so grateful for all of these blessings. And especially, for the family I get to do this life with. My heart is full.

The past two weeks in photos.

The past two weeks have felt a rollercoaster of emotion. From the lingering sadness of losing a beloved pet to the joy and happiness of the birth of my first grandchild. Along with all of the other stress and anxieties of my life, it’s been a wild ride for sure.

I’ve had these words of Diane Ackerman playing in my head a lot lately:

"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.”

I’ve always loved this quote, I just didn’t expect to live this much width in such a short span. So in this unique season of life, I am very grateful for every little moment of peace and presence.
