it’s sort of become a thing….every few months kelsey and i do a mini-photo shoot. she’ll come up with a cute outfit, and i’ll scout out a pretty location. this past weekend, she came home to visit and we all went to the lake. saturday afternoon was so beautiful and the light was just perfect.
i absolutely loved the look she pulled together….and that hat??? please. so cute.
when we got home on sunday afternoon, i was upstairs folding clothes. kelsey had come up and stopped in the hallway…and that’s where i found her….staring at her senior picture we have hanging on the wall at the top of the stairs.
she looked at it, then looked at me and asked, ‘do you think i look different? do you think i look older?’
well, obviously she looks older…it’s been five years since her high school senior pictures. and i think her shorter hair and the way she wears her makeup now adds to that. but mostly i think the difference in these two photos is a quiet confidence. a hard-won inner strength honed by four grueling years of university. a young woman who is more sure of who she is. a young woman becoming more and more comfortable in her own skin all the time.
i’ll be honest though…it’s hard for me to see her objectively. because when i look at her, i see the same bright eyes and big smile that have melted my heart for over 22 years. and i’m looking forward to capturing them with my camera for many years to come.
love, kelly
