52 Weeks of Pinspiration {Week 40}–Fall Wreath

Hi friends!  I’m back. Smile

I’m not sure what it is about fall and cooler weather, but I seemed to have gotten my groove back. LOL.  And seeing all the awesome fall decorations on my Pinterest feed has put me in a super crafty mood.

So I thought what better way to celebrate the season than to make a new fall wreath for my front door.

Have I ever told you how much I love making wreaths?  I really do.  Wreaths are a quick and fun little project and a relatively small investment in time and money.  The best kind of project!  So I thought I’d share with you how I made my fall wreath.

I decided to go with a tried and true grapevine wreath this go around and ended up choosing this oval shape just to do something a little different.  I actually would have preferred a little bit larger but this was all Hobby Lobby had.

In addition to the oval grapevine wreath, I also picked up two of these large fall stems from the floral department.2012 09 28_3970web

And then from the fall department, I picked up an assortment of fall picks.collage clipping template 7web

Last but not least I grabbed one fall bush that came with a mix of sunflowers and other berries, pinecones, and acorns which I promptly cut into individual stems with my trusty needle-nose pliers.

OK.  To get started I took one of the large stems and placed it kind of along the right side, bending the main stalk to follow the curve of the wreath.  Then I tucked the ends into the wreath and hot-glued it down in few places to secure it.

Any day that starts out with needle-nose pliers and a glue gun is an awesome day in my book! Smile

Next I separated the other large stem into individual stems.2012 09 28_3985web

I placed a few of the leaf stems along the bottom left.  And then added a couple of big sunflowers at about the 5:00 position near the bottom.

Once I had the main flowers in place, then it was just a matter of adding in the other decorations.  Oh and I decided to put a small cluster with one sunflower up near the top in the 11:00 position to balance out the composition.

I may have gone a little overboard.

To be completely honest, there’s probably way too much stuff for this size of wreath.  But I was in the zone and I didn’t really care. Smile  Go big or go home right??

I guess I should warn you, don’t worry if your kitchen table looks like this when you’re done.  Just means you did it right. LOL 2012 09 28_4009web

As I was cleaning up, I had a random bunch of stuff leftover.  So instead of just throwing it away or stuffing it in my already overflowing craft closet, I just bunched all the remnants together and tied some raffia around the bottom.  Turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself.  Smile

In all I spent about $50 on supplies which is a bargain compared with the $149 they’re asking for fall wreaths at my local floral/gift shop.  And I have to say, this was just the ticket to put me in the mood for fall.

Have you made any fun fall crafts you’ve seen on Pinterest?  Feel free to leave a link to your blog in the comments below.

Happy Fall Y’all!

Love, Kelly
