an evening of wine and rosé

hi friends!  happy monday.  what’s new in your neck of the woods?

i’m chuckling at myself a little after having just typed that given the nature of this blog post.  rosé being all fancy and me so totally not being all fancy. well…ok…maybe i’m a teeny bit fancy because i do really love champagne.  and i don’t like eating fried chicken or bbq ribs with my hands.

and see…now you’re wondering how you’ve gotten through life without knowing all these details about yours truly.

anyway, i’ve been on a bit of a rosé wine kick lately.

actually, rosé is a somewhat new to me, but i am really enjoying it.  it’s light in body and because it’s usually served chilled, it’s a great summer wine….a nice departure from either the sauvignon blanc or pinot gris that i usually enjoy this time of year.

so if you’re not familiar with rosé wine, it is actually made from red wine grapes (cabernet, zinfandel, pinot noir) only the skins are removed before it is fermented.  therefore it loses some of the deeper tannin that so often accompanies the deeper color.  feel free to geek out here on wikipedia.

the rosé varieties that i prefer are on the drier, crisper side. not the typical ‘blush’ wines you might associate with rosé.  without going into too much detail, my preference for dry rosé has much to do with an unfortunate incident involving a long car ride home and way too much white zinfandel at one of my friend carrie’s pokeno parties the night before.

{shudder}

anyway, the reason i am telling you all about this is because friday night i invited a few of my girlfriends over for dinner.  girls’ night in, if you will.  and my friend kim brought the wine. a fabulous rosé wine from one of her favorite wineries in california.

it happened to be one of those perfect early summer evenings.  the temp had cooled off and there was just enough breeze to cut through the humidity.  the three of us sat at my outdoor table enjoyed a simple meal.  and kim’s wine was the perfect compliment to the meal and the companionship.

this my friends, is the good life.  and i am enjoying it to the last drop.

love, ms. fancypants
