Yes friends, it’s back!
The new series is not a reboot but rather a continuation of the original series which aired on CBS from 1978 to 1991. And the great thing is that DALLAS (v. 2012) is that three of the original, main characters– JR, Bobby, and Sue Ellen – are coming back!
According to TNT:
JR, Bobby and Sue Ellen Ewing return to the ranch with secrets, schemes and betrayals. This time, they’re joined by the next generation of Ewings, who take ambition and deception to a wicked new level. The battle for power, love and Southfork erupts in the new Dallas.
Is it weird that I’m so excited this campy, 80’s primetime soap-opera is coming back to television?

When I was growing up, my mom always worked so Friday nights were kinda sacred. It was her one night off from cooking dinner (a little tradition I myself have adopted) so we usually ordered pizza or went out for burgers. Then my parents, my little brother, and I would get into our comfy clothes and gather around the giant console TV in the living room. Daddy always took the recliner and Mike was usually playing with his toy trucks in the middle of the floor. Mom and I would sit on the couch or even better, sometimes she would sit on the floor and I would play ‘Beauty Shop’ and brush and curl her hair in pink sponge rollers.
My grandparents, Ed and Bessie, moved to town in the early 80’s and often times we would go to their house to watch TV. At that time, DALLAS came on right after The Dukes of Hazard. Daddy and Grandpa used to get so tickled watching Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane get bamboozled by Bo & Luke Duke.
Personally I think the Dukes rubbed off a little too much on my little brother who attempted just about every car chase scene from that beloved series when he turned 16 and got a car.
(Just kidding, Mikey.) 
Anyway, watching DALLAS with my family was our Friday night tradition. I clearly remember the infamous cliffhanger in which we were left to wonder, “Who shot J.R.?” and then eagerly awaiting the next season to find who did it. None of us were shocked to learn that it was indeed J.R.’s conniving sister-in-law, Kristin Shepard. (You called it Grandpa!)
When I started high school in 1982, being in the marching band meant I had to go to all the football games. Plus then it wasn’t quite as cool to hang out with your parents and grandparents on Friday night. So it was about the time Pamela woke up from her dream that I stopped watching DALLAS for good.
I’m 44 years old now and I will never forget my dad and grandpa laughing their asses off at Boss Hogg or me sitting on the couch brushing my mom’s hair. Maybe what I loved about Friday nights and DALLAS so much didn’t really have anything to do with watching TV.
So tonight as watch DALLAS from the comfort of my bedroom on DVR, I will think of my beloved grandparents.
And maybe say a little prayer in gratitude of the wonderful family I have been so blessed with.
