chocolate ice cream sodas

you know that saying…a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach…well if that is the case then ice cream would be tripp’s love language.

well as luck would have it, my very first job was at an ice cream shop called Braum’s.  so i know a thing or two about all frozen desserts.  for instance it’s pronounced sher-bet, not sher-bert.  although i typically say the latter.  what can i say…i’m an okie and old habits die hard.

anyway, one of my favorite things to make when i worked at Braum’s was an ice cream soda.  and after a year of so of working there, i perfected my technique.  so in honor of valentine’s day and my one true love, tripp {not ice cream in case you were wondering}, i thought i would share with you my perfected chocolate soda recipe.  although you can hardly call it a recipe it’s so easy.

here is all you need:

  • chocolate ice cream
  • hershey’s chocolate syrup
  • club soda
  • whipped cream
  • cherry

ok.  to start with, put about a half-scoop of chocolate ice cream in a glass.

i was a bonehead and got chocolate chocolate chip.  which it still works fine.  but plain chocolate would have been better.  {i blame my fuzzy, decongestant-impaired brain}

next add about a tablespoon or so of hershey’s.

then pour in about 1/4 cup of the club soda and mix them all together.

once they are mixed, fill the glass to about two-thirds full with club soda.  not like mine in the photo below.  {see above}

next add in two small scoops of ice cream.  whether or not you ‘square dip’ is up to you.  {a little Braum’s humor for my high school friends who worked there with me.}

see where i’m going with this??

to finish it off, add a little whipped cream and a cherry.  or two.

oh be still my heart.

and that’s it!  see…so easy!!  it’s sort of like a root beer float.  only without root beer.  and with chocolate ice cream.   well so i guess it’s actually nothing like a root bear float except that it’s part fizzy drink and part ice cream.  but it’s wholly delicious!

{adorable heart straws are completely optional}

chocolate-soda

chocolate, ice cream, tripp…not necessarily in that order…that’s what i call a perfect way to celebrate valentine’s day.

enjoy friends!

love, kelly

    You are sooooo clever and multi-talented! And this looks delicious. I cannot remember when I last had an ice cream soda but I can tell you, it’s been not years, but decades. Honest. Happy Valentine’s Day to you both. {And the straws are just over-the-top cute!}

    This makes me smile really big! My parents met at an ice cream parlor where she worked, so ice cream is pretty special in our family! I’ve never made an ice cream soda. It does look easy and delicious. I’m headed to the grocery store tomorrow…wonder what I’ll put in my cart now!! Love all your pretty photos, especially the last one!

    Would you believe I have NEVER had a chocolate ice cream soda. I actually had to scroll back to the top to see if I had the name correct. But GOSH that sounds and looks YUMMY! Where did you get the straws? Love them!
