confessions of a garden junkie

just a heads up…there are alot of flower pictures in this post. Smile

hello friends!  happy wednesday.  how are you??  i hope you had a nice weekend and mother’s day.  mine was great.  sunday it was time spent at home with my family which is pretty much my idea of a perfect day.

i also got to spend some time with my mom on saturday.  earlier in the week we were talking on the phone and she was telling me about a public garden not far from their new place.  and i have to tell you, saturday was just so pretty.  the weather was great.  so it seemed like a perfect way to celebrate.IMG_5335 web

actually seems like since i got back from my trip to the dallas arboretum with my friends terri and leigh, i have been a total public garden junkie.  a couple of weeks ago, tripp and i took our evening walk through the tulsa rose garden.  and not long after that, i made a trip to woodward park to take in the tulips.

anyway, as you can imagine…a trip to lindenwood garden was right up my alley.

so i wouldn’t say lindenwood is a formal garden.  but rather, it’s more like a woodland garden that’s been sectioned off into a few different ‘rooms’.  once inside the gate, we were greeted by pretty walking paths and lots of pretty places to sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

lindenwood is such a beautiful place.  i loved the woodland garden feeling.  so many wonderful shade plants – hostas, azaleas, japanese maples, dogwoods.  and the light…oh my goodness…the light is utterly magical.

the dappled sun is perfect for growing hostas.

and well, it’s pretty much perfect for growing a variety of flowers.

{see…you thought i was joking didn’t you??}

anyway, we spent a delightful hour or so wandering through the garden.  i should tell you that my parents became well acquainted with my ‘camera face.’ which i used alot.  because it was just so beautiful.

on our way out of the garden we stopped in one particular section known as the ‘garden of hope.’  it’s a peaceful little spot on the grounds of lindenwood dedicated to families who have lost loved ones – especially young children.

and i don’t know…something about standing under the trees….hearing the breeze in the branches.  it was quite moving to me.  definitely one of those moments of intense gratitude.

gratitude for the beauty.  gratitude for my healthy family.  and especially that day…gratitude for my parents.IMG_5243 web

peace, kelly

    I love woodland gardens better than formal ones. There’s such random beauty and you never know what you’ll find tucked around the corner. I loved looking at each and every one of your images; beautiful light, colors, and flowers! What a very special time with your parents!

    That garden looks lovely. There is a house near where I live that you would love. They are huge, I call it the castle, but they have landscaped the area in such an AMAZING way. Just recently I realized they have a “ditch” which completely separates their house area from their other land (I told you it was hugs) but they planted wild flowers on the side of the ditch. IT IS SO PRETTY. Their land makes me want to stop and take pictures and well, we know I’m not a photographer! LOL I’m glad therea re public gardens like this for you to enjoy. 🙂
