As usual, May was a very full month. But in between all of the birthday and family celebrations, there were lots of everyday kinds of moments which I also love capturing with my camera.

May is a month of transition in the yard, so while Tripp took care of the lawn, I planted summer annuals in the flowerbeds and pots.

I grow different flowers for different reasons – some for cutting, some for pollinators – but bright, happy summer annuals will always have a place in my yard and in my heart for the color and life they bring to the party.

Also around the yard, it’s that time of year when we battle the neighborhood squirrels for peaches.

After being heavily damaged in a severe thunderstorm a couple of years ago, we weren’t even sure if our peach tree would ever produce peaches again. But with some judicious pruning and TLC, Tripp and I were happily surprised to see that it made fruit this year.

And speaking of critters, I’m also doing battle with the bunnies and slugs to save what’s left of my hostas. <<insert eye roll here>>

Also in May, Oklahoma weather likes to make sure that its part of the story too.

Off and on rounds of rain and thunderstorms all month has made for soggy conditions both in our neck of the woods and in our basement. <<<insert more eyerolling here>>>
But despite all the critter and weather-related drama, the month of May had some lovely little moments.

Evening walks are truly delightful this time of year.

Plus, over Memorial Day weekend, we got to spend some quality time with Kelsey, Alex, and baby H at Marval Camping Resort. We stayed in cabins next to the river and it was so nice to be able to get away for a few days.

While we were there, Tripp and I enjoyed playing with our grandson. He’ll be seven months old this week (!!!!) and is such a good-natured baby. His little hand “scritches” and belly laughs totally melt my heart.

Also, golden hour golf cart rides with my family will forever be my favorite.

Even though the weather didn’t cooperate most of the weekend, we made the best of our time together.

So incredibly grateful for these little moments and memories with my family.

Throughout the month of May, with all its highs and lows, I found great comfort in my photography practice. During those days when life felt overwhelming or I was in my head too much, pausing to take a photo had such a grounding effect on my mood and provided some much needed calm and clarity. As always, thank you for letting me share my very real, messy, and imperfect life with you.
Love, Kelly
