Happiness is…a basket of dirty laundry

I came home from work today and was greeted by the smiling face of my sweet daughter.  Oh, and this too.  And I don’t mean the cat hairballs – I come home to them every day.

I never thought I’d be so happy to see my daughter’s basket of dirty laundry.

Kelsey is home for a brief visit and a chance to recharge after the very intense Rush Week activities.  I’m here to tell you, sorority recruitment is not for the faint of heart…and I’m not talking about the girls who are rushing.  Every day Kelsey would call me and tell me about the parties she went to and the sororities she hoped to get invited back to.  Every day I’d wait anxiously by the phone waiting to hear the news.  (Yes I’m one of those moms now who has her phone by her side at all time.)  It is by far the hardest thing as a parent to stand back and watch events unfold with absolutely no control and being completely helpless to change the outcome of the situation.

The first time Kelsey got cut, I wanted to march down to that sorority house with my “mom face” and tell those girls what a HUGE mistake they were making by cutting my daughter.  But rush is a process and eventually Kelsey found a sorority of lovely, sweet girls that she will enjoy sharing her college experience with.  She’s so happy and excited, and really that is all that matters to me.

I’m so proud of Kelsey.  Not because she joined a sorority, but because she put herself out there and remained true to herself.

She is my hero.

Peace, Kelly
