‘Neath a western sky

Clear blue skies + brisk fall day =  Perfect day for OU football.

Tripp and I drove to Norman for the last home OU game of the season.  Just Tripp and me – first time in a long time.  It was really great.

So here’s the thing…if you are expecting a detailed analysis of the Sooners vs. Texas Tech game, I’m sorry to say this is not the blog for you.  This will be more of a color commentary a la Clairee Belcher in Steel Magnolias (without the locker room access).  “…would you call this color ‘grape’ or ‘aubergine’?”  (I just love that movie…I always stop for it if I’m channel surfing.)

Anyway-

To start with, the campus was beautiful as always.

Being the band geek I am, one of my favorite things to do is watch the band warm up and march to the stadium.  I’m a sucker for a good drum cadence.band

The weather at kickoff was a crisp and cool 58 with a slight north breeze.  The field looked wonderful.  The players appeared to be focused and enthusiastic.pre-game

The pre-game show is one of my favorite parts of the game.  The chant, the national anthem, and then O K L A H O M Aoklahoma

and BOOMER SOONER!drum major

Then it’s all aboard the Crazy Train!sooners

I did manage to get a shot of DeMarco Murray scoring our a touchdown (Look just to left of the goal post.  His helmet is diving into the end zone).  See, I was paying attention to the game…a little.touchdown

Here’s my other favorite part of the game – the halftime entertainment!  (I told you I was a band geek.)  This week during halftime, they honored Bob Barry for his 50 years of play-by-play announcing.halftime

I’ll be honest – I spent a good portion of the game monkeying around with my camera settings.  I recently got a polarizing filter which is supposed to be helpful when taking pictures outdoors in bright sunlight.  Also, when the sun goes behind the press box, it casts a shadow over the field.  In this next photo, I had the white balance set to “Auto.”awb

Then I tried setting the white balance to “Shade”.  See how the field looks more yellow-green instead of blue-green?  And brighter? What a difference!  I just love it when I figure stuff like that out.shade

I am happy to report that OU won against the Red Raiders 45-7.

As we were walking out of the stadium, I asked a very nice lady if she would take our photo.

tripp and me

It was only after she took the photo that I realized she was a visitor from Texas Tech.  Oops.  I wondered why she had such a bummed look on her face.

And then as we were leaving, we ran into Tripp’s brother, Thomas, and his wife, Michelle.  We didn’t know they were at the game.  What a happy surprise.

So all in all it was a wonderful day with my great husband.

Boomer Sooner!

Peace, Kelly
