decking the halls

well so yesterday, while outside it was doing this…

i stayed warm and cozy inside doing this.

between all the ornaments from our vacations, the ones kelsey made when she was little, and special heirloom ornaments…it’s like a walk down memory lane.  a scrapbook of our lives.  which i LOVE.

i also finished decorating the rest of the house yesterday.  i decided to shake things up a little since discovering that yet another set of lighted garlands decided to quit working.  so i just put out all of my decorating on the dining room table and then went ‘shopping’ so to speak.

the first thing i did was the fireplace mantle in the living room.  instead of the more conservative, symmetrical look i’ve been doing for the past few years, i thought i would do something a little more casual and unstructured.  and i have to admit i really like how it turned out.

i especially love these two sweet little angels that i bought last year.

didn’t change too much in the dining room.

and in the entry way, i kept things pretty much the same.

now it’s starting to feel a little more like christmas around the house which makes my heart so happy.  because the truth is that my heart has been hurting this past week.  an acquaintance of mine lost her son in a tragic car accident a couple of days ago.  and another mother i know is afraid of losing her son to his demons.

“in the middle of impossible messes comes the MESSIAH Who makes the miracles possible.”  ~ann voskamp

but i am continuing to fight for my christmas joy.  everyday.  with gratitude…my secret weapon.  grateful for all things big and small.

wishing you peace and joy friends.  love, kelly

Kelly, your home is beautiful! I do love your mantle and those cute angels. Lovely “JOY” ornament laying in the box, too. I may steal your idea and try to make one! I know you’re glad the decorating is done and your can now sit back and enjoy the beauty of your home. My prayers are with your friends.

I know many people love to have a fancy, elegant Christmas tree with color coordinated ornaments but I’m with you – our tree is full of ornaments made by or bought for our kids throughout the years. The memories brought to mind by these ornaments are worth everything to us.
I will keep you friends in my prayers. There truly is nothing worse than losing a child.

I want to know did you stage the bassett? Gorgeous house. How fun to go shopping at your own house, and so much cheaper.
