May Looked Like This

May looked liked lots of muddy garden work.

Cleaning out debris, pulling weeds, staking dahlias, adding mulch. You know…the kind of unpretty, dirty work that goes on behind the scenes that seldom gets shared but that is an essential element of every pretty flower picture.

And speaking of pretty flower pictures…

This year was a good year for my David Austin roses.

Not everything in my yard flourished as well though. This was the sum total of my ranunculus harvest this year. Try not to be jealous. lol

I think I didn’t set my corms out early enough and it got too hot for them. So lesson learned there if I try them again next year.

Of course it wouldn’t be May in Oklahoma without storms and rain.

Other than a few losing a few branches, we weathered the storms without much damage unlike so many of our neighbors in the southern and northern parts of the state.

May also had its moments of light and loveliness.

May looked like bunnies scurrying and scampering all over the neighborhood.

Something I enjoying watching in every yard but mine. <<wink>>

Butterflies, one the other hand, are visitors that I will always happily invite to my garden.

This beautiful creature is a Pipevine Swallowtail which is common in my area this time of year. I love getting a glimpse of him showing off his iridescent-blue hindwings in the morning sun.

May looked like bold, colorful blooms of daylilies filling in that time and space between spring blooms and summer flowering annuals.

May looked liked a long-weekend trip to Broken Bow lake with my family.

We stayed in a cabin near Hochatown, OK and enjoyed a few days of downtime in the beautiful Ouachita Mountain country.

May looked like lots of ordinary life and quiet moments at home too.

May had a little bit everything. Ups and downs and everything in between. And looking back at these photos makes feeling very grateful for all of it.

Love, Kelly
