Northeast Oklahoma is just a layover as they continue their southerly journey to Mexico where they will overwinter in the country’s central highlands. I’ve been catching glimpses of them here and there – a few in my backyard and in the neighborhood – but I think we’re still a little bit early for the main event.
In recent years, the monarch population has been declining. Plus, there was a terrible storm this past March in Mexico which reported to have killed nearly 7% of the monarch population. So whenever I do catch a glimpse of these magical creatures, it makes me really, really happy.
I hope they make you happy too!
Love, Kelly
Beautiful butterfly! I also love your background!
They really are so beautiful, and I was so glad to see a few of them here in NY this year.
Last year, we did not see even one. 🙁
