my daughter’s {A}rt

Photo May 04, 8 07 44 AM

she didn’t just play restaurant.

first she brainstormed the kind of restaurant she wanted to have.  then we went to the computer and i helped her make up menus to print out.  then she set up a hostess station at the table in our entry way.

only then were her customers (i.e. baby dolls and stuffed animals) seated and brought drinks. and since kelsey also doubled as the waitress, she would then also proceed to take their orders.

whether it was playing barbies or school, kelsey always had a very clear idea of how she wanted things to be and the resourcefulness to make it happen.  so it should come as no surprise that my girl’s chosen career is in special event planning and design.

so often when we think of pursuing art, the connotation is that we are chasing some elusive thing.  when really, we are born as artists.  and the real challenge is not to spend time chasing art, but rather to remain to true to {A}rt that already lives inside us.

my daughter is an {A}rtist.

she has spent the past four years of university digging deep and discovering what makes her come alive.  she set aside dreams that didn’t fit – even knowing that she was going to have to play major catch up – to pursue her art.  even when she wasn’t sure exactly what that was.  my girl is an {A]rtist because she listens to that tiny voice in her soul.  because she trusts the the Lord and his Providence.  she has faith in God’s divine design for her life.

today my girl is celebrating her 22nd birthday.  she is on the cusp of a new life full of new experiences.  and i know that her beautiful soul and faithful heart will lead her well into this next chapter of her life.

happy birthday kelsey-girl.  thank you for shining your light and teaching me what it means to be an artist.

love, momma
