One Little Word – TRY

I love this saying –

The keys of the past unlock the doors of the future.

I think it’s fair to say that, for me anyway, 2011 was the year of looking inward and backward as I spent the better part of last year trying to put my life into some sort of perspective.  Part of that process meant I had to ask myself some hard questions and although it wasn’t always easy, I have gained a lot of insight and wisdom because of it.

So now that I am armed with the peace and confidence of knowing who I am, I’m ready to tackle the question, “What can I do?”.

That’s where my One Little Word comes in –

TRY:  to attempt to do or accomplish.  ATTEMP, ENDEAVOR, EXPLORE, EXPERIMENT, STUDY

My whole life, I have played it safe and played by a ridiculous set of self-imposed rules, so my goal for 2012 is to try new things and open myself up to new possibilities. But because of the very nature of the word *try*, I also accept that the following things may happen.  I may:

  • embarrass myself
  • feel uncomfortable
  • be frustrated
  • fail miserably

However, it is also possible that I will:

  • learn something new
  • have fun
  • be inspired
  • succeed brilliantly

Either way, one of the things I know for sure is that I am done worrying about what people will think I am D.O.N.E. listening to the voice of doubt and fear.  From now on, I am going to listen to my heart and sing its song of hope and joy.

So here’s to 2012!  It will be the year of looking outward and forward. It will be the year of why not.  And 2012 will be the year of TRY.

What a touching post. I am rooting for you in 2012. I can so relate to everything you have shared. I am much the same way. I find that tiny, tiny baby steps really help me and sometimes I get brave enough to try a giant step and still survive! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving your link! Happy 2012!

I love the way you used scrabble tiles to illustrate your word. Try is a great word for the year. I just read a book called Poke the Box. In it it said that if you are not failing you are not TRYing new things. I am also in One Little Word. My word is Dwell. Looking forward to seeing you here and there.
