because creativity doesn’t have to be so hard

for the past couple of weeks, i’ve been reading the artist’s way.  i’m only about one-third of the way through it. but one thing that has become apparent – i know this probably isn’t going to come as a shock to anyone – and that is i have a tendency to overthink things.

anyway, i am doing the prescribed tasks to nurture my creativity such as morning pages and positive affirmations.  but basically creativity looks a lot like showing up and doing the work.

how about that.

Hi Kelly, LOVELY image. I’m an over-thinker myself. Often times, I’ll over-think so much that I talk myself right out of whatever it is I’m over-thinking! Make sense? Oh it makes me so angry!!

Another gorgeous image … I’m going to have to get my book out once again … is it weird that I feel guilty if I’m NOT creating? Sometimes I think I just need to sit and enjoy …

Such a sweet little piece and yes you are right I believe it is about showing up and really being nice to our selves also I think is important. When I think of you Kelly I always think of light as you always seem to find that beautiful light.

Oh Kelly, love your image! A simple canning jar with some sunflowers. Perfect. I read the Artist’s Way many years ago and because of it I’ve been writing morning pages for several years. Much of the time it is gibberish, but once in awhile something comes out and I think wow, this is why I’m doing this! Creativity is absolutely showing up and doing the work. Well done you!

Well, as I told you over at FOL, I adore this photo! And I’m thinking I made need to take a look at The Artist’s Way. I’ve never stuck with morning pages. Do they really help?

There are a couple other books you may like about creativity you may like, “The War of Art” (by Steven Pressfield) and “Beautiful Anarchy” (by David DuChemin). Will have to check out your book next… Happy Wednesday, Kelly!

but basically creativity looks a lot like showing up and doing the work. LOL! Funny how that works, isn’t it?! Sometimes I wish it was as easy as reading a few affirmations or inspirational quotes. I’ve been stuck in a rut lately and haven’t been able to force myself to do the behaviors I know will spark that creativity again. But wine does help. 🙂
