I could take photos of flowers all day long.
{Grape Hyacinths on March 1st??!!Ā This Winter is crazy!!!}
They just stand there with their sweet little faces and smile pretty.Ā They are so patient and agreeable and do not mind one bit while I fiddle with my camera settings.Ā Because of their congenial nature I have learned that, on my camera in the Manual setting, two steps to the right of middle (slightly overexposed according to my cameraās meter) is actually perfectly exposed when I look at it Photoshop Elements.
My action photography on the other handā¦well, it could use some improvement. LOL And since Iām not chasing little kids around anymore, I have to practice my action skills on Daisy.
Daisy Duke loves to fetch.Ā Wait, let me rephrase that ā Daisy Duke LIVES to fetch.Ā
My hubby was out of town most of the week so a couple of nights ago I attempted to throw the ball and take pictures at the same time hoping to get a good photo of Daisy jumping up to the catch the ball.
The first thing I did was to set my aperture to f/2.5 and increase my ISO to 1600 so that I could get the fastest possible shutter speed.Ā
The problem was that I canāt throw worth a damn with my right hand much less with my left, and then trying to focus and and keep her in frameā¦well needless to say it didnāt work out too great.
So last night with my sweet husband finally home, I had a chance to practice a little more.Ā Tripp bounced the ball around and I got a few shots that were decent.Ā But then we devised an awesome game that would hopefully help me get a good shot of a mid-air leap.Ā
So hereās how it went down.Ā While Tripp stood on the raised flower bed with the ballā¦
ā¦Daisy sat patiently anxiously in the yard.Ā āDaisy.Ā Waaaiiiittttā¦Siiittttā¦Waaaaiiiittt.Ā She was practically humming with potential energy.Ā (Yes I know ā Iām a total science nerd. LOL)
Then Tripp says the magic words, āCome on, Daisy.Ā Come get it!ā and Daisy makes her move.Ā Hereās the build upā¦.
ā¦and hereās the Leap!
A perfect landing!!
Good Job Daisy Duke!
Finally, success!Ā
I think this is what I love most about this P52 project ā it challenges me to get out of my comfort zone and experiment.Ā And what better way to learn than to spend some time outside on a beautiful evening with my wonderful husband and loveable pets.
Thatās my kind of classroom!Ā
Peace, Kelly
Your email happened to be the first one I opened this morning and it began my day with I smile!! I love your series of pictures and your commentary!! I haven’t quite conquered the shutter speed thing either and I need to. I have four grandsons that never stop moving! Thanks for brightening my morning! I hope you a wonderful day!
Great pictures!
This post cracked me up! I love your attempt to throw and take the photo — totally something I would do š Daisy looks like such a sweet girl!
Lots of fun for Daisy and good shots. V
My perfect meter happens to be two stops up also š My grape hyacinths are almost ready! I will post a picture of mine just for you in about 2 weeks I think!
Kelly, I love how you chronicled the process of taking your leap shots.
I love taking flower pictures, too. I live in Florida, but my best flower photo post is from Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania here: http://virginiaknowles.blogspot.com/2011/03/weekend-gratitude-for-family-in.html
I’ve also got daughters in college, and another about to start next year, so I know how that goes. Growing pains for any Mom!

P.S. My P52 photo this week is at http://www.comewearymoms.blogspot.com/2012/03/learning-to-leap-p52.html
LOL LOL LOL!! Kelly, I laughed out loud several times while reading this!
I think your shots (and Miss Daisy) are FABULOUS! And I love how you’ve experimented with your ISO and what-not, to get the effects you wanted. And the “humming with potential energy” absolutely cracked me up! Ha hah! That’s something I would say! š Loved this post! And your little smiling flowers were brilliant, too!
Happy Sunday! š
Such awesome leaping dog photos! I think it’s great how you got the ones leading up to it too – definitely gives a sense of anticipation. I wish I had a dog to try this with!!
Love me some Daisy!! š
