Robin ‘Hood

Robins in the Neighborhood

On Monday, I was standing at the back door looking out at the backyard. I was bemoaning the extra inch of snow we had received overnight and the fact that it the temperature would not get above freezing…again.

But then I noticed that there were dozens of robins lined up around the edge of pool – mostly likely looking for water. They were so cute all puffed up and nestled together. So I bundled up and went outside with my big zoom lens to see if I could get a better look.

Turns out, they were eating the snow! It’s just one of the ways they can get water when all of their usual water sources are frozen. Isn’t that amazing?

As I was walking around in my backyard I noticed that there were even more robins at my neighbor’s house across the street, feasting on the bright red holly berries in his backyard. So I walked across the street and watched the robins as they flocked between the hollies and the other trees in the neighborhood.

I was only outside for about 10 minutes before my hands were so cold that could barely press the shutter on my camera. It made me wonder how these sweet little robins could possibly survive in these extremely cold temperatures.

But these creatures aren’t as delicate as they might seem. They have built in down coats by way of their outer feathers which provide insulation against the cold. Plus, by puffing up, the trapped air inside their feathers offers yet another layer of protection.

Spending some time outside on Monday, taking photos of the robins in the neighborhood really lifted my spirits. Not just because they look so cute all puffed up eating the snow. But because I know that when the robins are gathering in the neighborhood like this, spring won’t be far behind.

Love, Kelly

Seeing her with her baby boy unlocks a level of joy in my heart that I can’t quite properly put into words. So proud of her and the way she is navigating this new chapter of life, and I can’t wait to see the next year has in store for this precious little family. ❤️

I’m doing the thing that you’re not supposed t I’m doing the thing that you’re not supposed to do and letting you know that I am taking a break from Instagram.

Long story short, during my initial consultation with the chiropractor last month for my grumpy shoulder, he showed me an X-ray of my neck. Although it wasn’t what caused the initial injury to my shoulder, the misalignment was exacerbating the pain and also preventing my shoulder from healing properly.

My chiropractor didn’t ask, but I immediately knew. My neck issue was caused by much time looking at my phone. And ‘looking at my phone’ is just another way of saying ‘scrolling Instagram’.

I’ve know for a long time that Instagram is often detrimental for my mental health. But now faced with the knowledge that it is taking a toll on my physical health as well, it is clear to me that I need to make a change.

I am planning to use this time to reset my relationship with this social media outlet. My other goal is to resume posting on my blog and sharing the little snippets of my life there.

On a related note, I changed webhosts last week, and the migration of my site caused some downtime and problems accessing my content. For the most part, everything seems to be working OK now. If you would like to sign up to receive my blog posts via email, there is a link in my profile.

Thank you so much for allowing me to share my life with you. I am cheering you on in all of your projects and creative endeavors, and wishing you every blessing while I’m away. Love, Kelly
