Why yes I did watch Friends reruns while I ran on the treadmill this afternoonā¦why do you ask?
Well so our bedroom makeover is coming along.Ā You know, Iām debating about what to call our little project.Ā I mean itās not a remodel (no walls were harmed in the updating of this bedroom), and I wouldnāt exactly call it a renovation. I mean it is, but to me renovation is more like in a kitchen where you replace all the appliances or something.Ā So itās not that.Ā So Iāll stay with makeoverā¦more than just say getting your makeup done at the mall, butās itās not a total facelift either.Ā I guess you could say itās maybe a microdermabrasion treatment paired with a little botox.Ā Or so I would suppose.
Anyway, come on in and Iāll show you what weāve done.
So perhaps you recall, a couple of years ago this happened, and so we had to completely gut and remodel our master bathroom.Ā You can read all about the project here, but word of warningā¦some crazed lunatic hacked into my blog account and wrote these blog posts.Ā I donāt know what was wrong with her (maybe her daughter was getting ready to graduate from high school or something) but that poor gal was just completely unhinged.
Sidenote #1 ā Holy hell I canāt believe that has been two years ago.Ā OMG where does the time go?
Sidenote #2 ā Why is it that whenever weāre having construction done on our house I start to curse like a construction worker?Ā
OK.Ā So anyway, we are finally getting around to tackling the bedroom portion of master suite renovation.Ā We were just going to do a few minor fixes and paint and be done with it, but of course when you have an old house, you fix one thing and it causes problems with three other things.Ā So long story short we had to replace the old, cracked, sagging plaster ceiling.
And when I say we I mean our handy man.
Fun times!
But things are moving right along and our handyman was able to get the sheetrock up pretty quick.
So now weāre all ready to paint tonight.Ā Yay me!
So in case you were wondering, weāve been sleeping out in our garage apartment.Ā Wait did I ever tell you we had a garage apartment?Ā Well, we do. Itās above the garage naturally.Ā
Itās where our friends and family stay usually when they come to visit.Ā But Iāll be honest ā when Tripp suggested that we sleep out there instead of the spare bedroom, I wasnāt all that excited about it.Ā Iāve always been a little creeped out by it.Ā Maybe thatās because when we first bought the house some weird guy lived in there.Ā It smelled to high heavens, plus he had a semi-pornographic poster on the wall and a moldy, half-empty gallon of Head Country BBQ sauce sitting on the shelf in the kitchenette.
{{{shudder}}}
Anyway, a few years ago we completely remodeled the garage apartment.Ā We started by ripping out all of the plaster walls and ceiling (and by we I mean Tripp) and then we hired a contractor the finish it out and put in the bathroom.Ā
And I have to say itās a really cute little space.Ā Wanna see?Ā Great!
Itās furnished with a hodge-podge of things ā Trippās momās old wingback chairs and our old headboard and armoire.Ā But itās really cozy.Ā And I think it has such pretty light.
It has just about everything youād need for a long stay.Ā Except cable.
Donāt even ask me how long my husband monkeyād with that stupid digital antenna.
Love how this cute little bathroom turned out.
Oh and let me show you thisā¦
See those cupboards and that countertop there?Ā Weā¦and yes I mean Tripp and myselfā¦ put those in.Ā We just bought those modular cabinetry units and one of those pre-made countertops that they sell at Home Depot.Ā Then we hauled it all up the stairs.
Sidenote #3 ā Let me just tell youā¦since Iāve lived in the house I have hauled more heavy shit up and down the stairs.Ā (See Sidenote #2)
One of things I like about being in the garage apartment is seeing this view of the entire backyard.
The other thing I love is this birdās eye view of the sunrise which I think is pretty awesome.
So with that I think Iām gonna wrap this up.Ā Tripp is upstairs with the radio blaring country music and I think thereās a can of Kilz with my name on it.
Love, Kelly
My how I love your sense of humor. Really!! I think anytime you have to move out of your own house, you can call it whatever you want. š
Hi, Kelly! Just popping by. I totally get the old house thing. I do not live in an old house but my job before I retired required me to play an integral part in face lifts/rehabs/renovations … whatever … of many old structures from small homes to college dormitories and libraries … which is likely why I don’t live in an old house. Yes … in any old structure one thing leads to another … and another … and … so on. You have both my admiration for tackling this and my sympathy. It’s gonna be beautiful though. (So they say midstream.)
š
Good luck on your makeover!! We remodeled one year and actually had a large roll of carpet sitting next to our Christmas tree! I was determined we would have a tree even if we had to keep moving it around!
