well so as you might have gathered from this post, last weekend i had a booth at āvintage market daysā here in tulsa.Ā Ā in case youāre not familiar with it:
Vintage Market Days is an upscale vintage-inspired indoor/outdoor market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home dƩcor, outdoor furnishings, consumable yummies, seasonal plantings and a little more.
i blame my mother (not really)ā¦because for months iāve been hearing things like, āsis, you really need to do something with your photography.āĀ so after a little research and some encouragement from my friends, i decided to apply (itās a juried show).Ā i didnāt hear anything for a couple of monthsā¦then wowā¦a few weeks or so later i got an email that they accepted me.
{insert panic attack here}
for the past month or so, i have been working on putting together my stuff.Ā researching printing options.Ā coming up with a booth design.Ā trying to keep my cat from eating the bows off my packages.
just a quick sidenote here to say this is why i have been a terrible blog, facebook, flickr, and real-life friend lately.
oh and i should also mention that if you need cute craft booth ideasā¦i just have one word for youā¦
i was especially proud of this cute, pinterest-inspired photo banner i made.
anyway, i have to sayā¦vintage market days was really fun.Ā especially getting to know the other vendors.Ā and the cool stuff they had to sell ā honestlyā¦.all i wanted to do was walk around and take pictures.Ā which i did because iāmĀ a total dork.
oh so do want to see my favorite thing?? first let me tell you that for the past year or so iāve had a bad case of chair envy.Ā because alot of my photography friends have these really cool old, antique chairs that they use for cool still life shots.Ā well so after i got my booth set-up, i spied this cool chair in one of the vendorās stalls.
total score! best 20 dollars ever!
just to let you knowā¦tripp was not nearly as excited about my new, old chair.
anyway, the rest of the market days went well.Ā i made a little extra money which was kind of coolā¦.although i will tell you that iām not going to be quitting my day job anytime soon.Ā but thatās ok.Ā because in the end, it really didnāt have anything to do with money.Ā vintage market days for me was about putting myself out there for the world to see.Ā almost like, āhere i am.Ā this is me.Ā this is what i do.Ā this is the way i see the world.āĀ it felt really good to own that.
almost as good as it feels to own my new, old chair.
love, kelly
I love the new old chair!!! š so happy you got to do vintage days! I’m sure there will be more ventures to come! š
love, love, love the old chair! I would be right with you snapping away. You should be very proud of yourself getting into this event. Pat yourself on the back! Glad you had a great time- think of what is to come!
Let me see if I can find words to convey how lit up I feel reading this… Um, toes are twinkling with excitement at your bravery? My heart leaps with awe? So many emotions for you, sweet friend. Pride, joy, wonder. You did it!! It must feel soooooo good!
Well I personally love your new old chair! I am so proud of you for getting out there. From the applying part to the set up of your booth and everything in between. Yay! I sure wish I could have come to see your booth and all of your beautiful stuff. (you’ll have to share some of your printing places you used since I’m pulling stuff together this summer for a fall booth.) š Great job Kelly.
oh yay, yay, yay you!! i keep talking about doing this ( we have art walks here in fayetteville every first thursday of the month), but i’ve never gotten around to doing it. but maybe now i’ll take a cue from you and get my heiny in gear and do it this summer. you’re going places, my friend!
Congrats on stepping out and showing your artwork! I love your booth! You found a wonderful chair! I’ve also been having chair envy and I don’t even do still life photos very often!
I love your old chair, your display and your photo banner! I did a few craft shows last fall — for the first time, too — and it was quite the experience. A lot of work, but it was so wonderful to get my images out there to the public and hear the response — and make some sales, which I donated to a local charity…All in all, glad I did it.
