while she was home.

while she was home, kelsey and i experimented with a variety of cocktails that centered around limonata san pellegrino.

while she was home, i introduced kelsey to some of my favorite movies from the late 80’s – working girl, tequila sunrise, bull durham, and dead poet’s society to be exact.  and in answer to her questions…yes, my hair was that big, and no i didn’t wear blue eyeshadow.

while she was home, tripp and i both enjoyed having our running buddy around…literally and figuratively.  trips to target and the grocery are much more fun with a trip to starbucks and singing to the radio.

while she was home, the radio dial in my car got an excellent workout.

while she was home, we actually had food in the pantry.

while she was home, kelsey helped me around the house.  my one and only big request was that she help me go through the old clothes, papers, and book in her closet.  a few of the remnants from when she moved out last summer.  it was something i hadn’t been able to do at the time.  but it felt good (for me) to get it done…like finally closing that chapter.

while she was home, kelsey and i had several conversations about the future.  but the one thing we both came back to was how different everything felt coming into the new year.  last year she was feeling a lot of anxiety about gradating from college and finding a job, finding a place to live.  and now this year!  she’s meeting new people, she is doing so well at her job, she is excited about the future.

while she was home, we walked down to the trail to take some pictures.  and as much as i treasure every single photo of my girl, there are always a few that stand out to me.  a shot that captures the magic of the moment.  a shot that pretty much sums up for me everything i feel about her and all the emotions of motherhood.

technically speaking it’s blurry and out of focus, but when i saw it on the back of the camera, my heart just melted.  the smile on her face, the way her eyes shine, the light…this is it.

i’m so glad she was home.

You know, Kelly – I think being out of focus actually makes this shot.
