Every year, my daughter and I make Christmas sugar cookies. It’s one of our favorite traditions.
This year, during one of our numerous trips to Target, my daughter found a gingerbread house kit on the holiday aisle. We’ve always wanted to make one, so we thought this cute looking kit would be just the thing.
The first step was to put some royal icing into the base.
Next you have to run icing along the sides in order to the “glue” the house together.
Now for the fun part – decorating!!
The only bad thing about the kit was the icing and the bag. It was a little unwieldy…
…but I got out my legit cookie decorating stuff and then we went to town!
It turned out CUTE! Oh wait, a few finishing touches.
There. Now it’s perfect.
We had so much fun making this house. A delightful break in the middle of the holiday frenzy.
And I have to say…I am very proud of myself for setting aside my perfectionist hang-ups. I’m sure my haphazardly decorated Santa would not pass muster with the likes of Martha Stewart, but I don’t even care. It was a wonderful, special day. And really, isn’t that the point? A lesson I am s..l..o..w..l..y trying to learn.
Peace, Kelly
