10 Things I Learned About Life from My Garden

Hi friends.  Happy Wednesday!  How are you?  What’s new in your neck of the woods?

So this past Saturday, in addition to a trip to the farm and garden equipment repair shop (yay me!) and Home Depot (woohoo!), I also finally got around to planting my early spring vegetables.

I loved it so much last year that I decided to do it again this year.  Only this year I’m changing things up a bit.  So for instance, totally not doing corn again – you need alot more room than we have to get a decent yield.  Plus the fact that the world’s best corn is grown about 15 miles south of where I live and it is sold at the farmers’ market approximately .675 miles from my house seems like alot more sense anyway.

OK, so I don’t actually know if it’s the world’s best, but anyone who’s been lucky enough to enjoy some Bixby sweet corn around about mid-July will tell you that it’s pretty darn amazing!

It’s true that I learned alot about gardening in my small space here in the city (as opposed to the ginormous garden we had back when we lived in the burbs).  But what’s funny is that I learned alot about life too.  So with a nod to my blogging friend Pam and quilting, here are ten things I learned about life from my garden.

  1. Work with the space you have.
  2. You have to do the dirty work to have a good harvest.
  3. Thinning things out is good.
  4. Give yourself room to grow (see #3)
  5. Don’t try to be a pea if you are a carrot.
  6. When it comes to harvest time, be careful what you wish for.
  7. Keep calm and water on.
  8. It’s important to prune from time to time to stay healthy.
  9. It’s easier to keep up with weeds a little at a time.
  10. Every once in a while, look back and see how far you’ve come.

Happy gardening friends.  Love, Kelly

What a great perspective. I’ve found that most of our activities can be applied to life. Love how you did this one.
