So let’s talk about movies.
Today I thought I would elaborate on a subject that I mentioned in this post and share with you some of my favorite movies.
And yes I know that this is riveting, life-altering stuff, but I’ve had a lot of time think about it while painting all those dumb spindles.
Anyway, just to be clear, the list I am about to share isn’t my list of favorite movies of all time (although there is a bit of overlap). That list is made up of movies that have either A) touched my heart and soul profoundly and/or actually changed my life, or B) in my humble opinion, been done so beautifully that they elevated the medium by their sheer artfulness.
No, rather this list is the movies that that are near and dear to my heart. Movies that I will almost always stop and watch if I am channel surfing. I kind of equate these movies to my favorite songs. You know the kind right? Songs that you know every word to. Songs that reminder you of a particular place or person or time in your life and whenever you hear it you are instantly transported to that place or time. Song that whenever you hear them on the radio you have to turn it up and sing along. That’s what kind of movies I’m talking about.
Although that list of songs is probably another blog post for another day. Hang on real quick while I go and write that down in my notebook. hehe.
OK, so without further adieu and in no particular order, here is my top ten list of favorite movies to watch on TV.
-
American President
-
You’ve Got Mail
-
Father of the Bride
-
St. Elmo’s Fire
-
Breakfast Club
-
Steel Magnolias
-
Hope Floats
-
Dirty Dancing
-
Pretty Woman
-
Working Girl
You know, I thought about sharing a little bit about why I love each of these movies, but then I thought about the dust bunnies in my house and figured dealing with that might be a better use of my time.
So, just for grins, I thought it might be kind of funny to see which movies made Tripp’s list. Of course he doesn’t feel the need to create these kinds of carefully detailed and categorized lists like I do (and I have many) but generally speaking, here are Tripp’s favorite movies.
- Grease
- Father of Bride
- Gladiator
- 300
- The Fugitive
- Mamma Mia
- Encino Man
- American President
- Ace Ventura
- Old School
As a side note…originally my beloved’s movie list included Taken, but I was like, “Dude! Seriously?? You do realize that this movie is about a couple’s only child – A DAUGHTER – who is kidnapped and sold into sex slavery!??” Then I made him take it off. And he replaced it with 300. Also a movie whose appeal I will never understand.
So as you can see, both Father of the Bride and American President made both of our lists. Not exactly sure what that says about us….
Anyway, that’s it for us. What about you? What are some of your favorites? Feel free to share any of your (or your spouse’s) favorites in the comments below.
Now where is that remote…

I’m with you on American President but…. I’m guessing by the rest that I’m older than you! How about “Local Hero”, The Graduate, Casablanca…. have to think about narrowing it to 10 – but I love these three.

Dirty dancing, 16 candles, pretty in pink! And add all the ones you listed with the exception of american president cause I haven’t seen it. However I do have to side with Tripp on the taken movie. It is good. And I’m glad we know a few people that have some of this skills!!

Quite an eclectic mix, and it’s great that two of them are on both lists! Pretty Woman is the only one I have seen numerous times that’s also on your list. Others include When Harry Met Sally, Serendipity, Julie & Julia, Fellowship of the Ring….
More lists, please!

Hmm… “Blind Side” “Love Actually” and (my VERY guilty pleasure), any of the “Bring It On” movies. Oh, and also “Clueless”! 😉
