all’s well that ends well.

hello sweet friends. happy monday.  how are you?  how was your weekend?

mine?…well let’s just say (in the words of my daughter) i rode the struggle bus.

i guess you could say it started friday.  because it was the third day in a row that severe weather had been forecasted.  and between the local news and the weather channel and the ‘torcon’ index…and facebook statuses with stuff like ‘imminent tornado outbreak’… well i’ll tell you…i was already a little on edge.

but my personal shitstorm happened around 5:00 friday evening.  three words – hard. drive. failure.

i feel like i need to be honest here and tell you that i think i am the one who killed my computer.  you see, friday afternoon while i was waiting for tripp to get home from work, i decided that i would spend a few minutes organizing some of the folders in my lightroom catalog.  which seemed to go fine.  then as i was closing out of the program it asked if i wanted to back-up my catalog file. which i did.  which without getting too techy basically saves all the information about my catalog and the adjustments i’ve made to my photos in lightroom.

well so after it finished i shut down my computer and went upstairs to fold some clothes and fix my face before going out to dinner.

i guess that last part wasn’t really all that important in the whole scheme of this particular story, but you know…i’m all about full disclosure here.  Winking smile

anyway, once tripp got home i went to turn on my computer to show him some of the crazy severe weather maps and then…nothing.  seven beeps.  and nothing.  but with severe weather looming we decided to eat dinner a little earlier so that we could be home before it got too bad outside.

and once again, in the spirit of full disclosure, i will tell you that margaritas were involved.

margarita

so i’ll spare you the details about my google searches and us trying to fix my computer, and i’ll just tell you that the seven beeps is bad.  very, very bad.

***let me pause here for a sec and urge you to go right now and backup your computer.  they always say…it’s not if your computer crashes, but when.  luckily my pictures were saved to my external hard drive and my whole system had been backed up recently.

anyway since i’ve already probably bored you to death with my computer drama, i’ll also spare you the details of my visit to best buy and the geek squad guy who basically told me that it would cost more to fix my computer than to buy any one of the newer, better, faster models currently on the market.

***i would like to pause here again to say that i know what i am describing is majorly first world probs.  my computer is thankfully not my livelihood.  nor does it even compare to the true suffering of our neighbors in the okc area.  just wanted to get that out there.

well so as they say – all’s well that ends well.  and since it all ended well i guess that means all is well.  i got a new computer and was able to re-download all my photography software and upload all my pictures.  i was even able to restore my lightroom  catalog which (without going into the details of exactly why) to me was a complete miracle.  #thankyoujesus

anyway, by saturday evening, the last of the literal (and figurative) storm clouds had passed.  and we enjoyed a beautiful evening at home.

Oh. Dear. Lord. This is my huge fear! Well, after accidentally deleting my entire blog, it is. I’m going to focus on backing up photos over the next few days for sure. I am so glad you had all your gorgeous images!
