day 1 ~ good morning sunshine

the windows of my soul i throw wide open to the sun.  ~john greenleaf whittier

hello my name is kelly and i am a light junkie.

IMG_2987_blog

i should probably confess here…stopping to take pictures of the morning light pouring in through my living room windows has caused me to be late to work a time or two.  or five.

IMG_2992_blog

{and as always thank you for not noticing how nasty my floor is.}

there’s just something about the light though…and it fills me with so much joy.  and awe.

IMG_1329_web

it’s for that reason, every morning on the way out the door, i like to pause and give a little nod to the morning sun.

IMG_2139_blog

i think that’s fair seeing as how every. living. thing. on this planet is 100% dependent on the sun’s light.

but before i give you the wrong idea – i’m not a sun worshipper.  well, ok, the brown spots all over my face might beg to differ, but that’s probably another blog post for another day.  but rather, i am giving a nod to the One who set the sun in the sky.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:3

i’ll admit, for a control freak such as myself, it’s a little unnerving to be completely dependent on something over which i have ZERO control.  but to me, the light is the reminder of not only God’s sovereignty, but also His faithfulness.  and the truth is that this simple fact has brought some much needed peace into my life.

now i know this might seems like a strange way to start off a blog series about empty-nesting.  and i really hope i’m not running everyone off right here in the beginning.  i always find it interesting that anytime i share my faith in something kind of heavy like this, i always lose a few blog subscribers. and it’s a little surprising to me because i don’t think my faith has ever been a big secret.

but here’s the thing you need to know about me…more than any camera lens or piece of equipment, my faith in God is the lens through which i see my life.  not only is it how i view my purpose, but it is also how i get through difficult times.  and the truth is that throughout this transitional time in my life, i have relied on it more than ever to light my way and see myself differently.

this is where it all starts for me.  good morning sunshine.

Kelly, I love this post. I too am an empty nester, and I can be late for work because I’m trying to get some shots of morning light before I leave. Although that is pretty much coming to an end as the days are getting shorter and there is less and less light at either end of the day. But oh how I love it; it is a gift.

Hmmm, The Light Seeker, sounds like the name of a book 🙂 Cathy’s right, you definitely are a light seeker sis, both in the physical world of photography and the spiritual world with your insight. I’m proud of you for giving God the first day of your “31 days journey”. Mom

Oh I so love this Kelly, I too am a seeker of light, God’s first and then through the lens. The light that comes into your house is just magical. And yes, what is it about people unsubscribing when we talk about our faith, that we have many times talked about on our blogs?
