day 15 ~ the queen of denial

I am never five minutes into stripping the clutter from my life before I start running into the clutter that is my life.  ~Robert Brault

i have a special trick.  you ready?

it’s called ‘busyness’.  because if i am stressed out about something or if something is bothering me that i don’t want to think about….i can make myself so busy that in the words of my mom, ‘i am meeting myself coming and going.’

this is where i was a couple of months after kelsey went to college.

what what bothering me? well to put it simply…i missed my girl.  i missed seeing her at the bar in the kitchen after school and the dinner table at night.  i missed her tagging along with me running errands.  i missed singing harmony with her to country music radio.  i mean the list could go on and on.

but in addition to that, what i was also missing was the focus that having her at home gave to my day.  i felt like i just walked around in circles with no clear direction.  with her away i felt aimless and unproductive.

hello empty nest.

for me the antidote for ‘busy’ is to force myself to slow down.  quiet my life and quiet my mind.  get rid of the clutter – literally and figuratively.  reconnect with my home and family.  find my gratitude.

so that’s what i did.  and although it wasn’t exactly a quick fix for the emptiness of my nest, getting rid of all that clutter created some much needed space for all the good things yet to come.

I like that your last words. “Clearing the clutter to get ready for all the good things to come.” I can see your faith shining through!

I just found you on Cathy’s blog page from a comment you left her. I love Cathy’s blog so very much and I find that if you also love her blog and have one of your own it must also be very good. And IT IS! I just signed up to follow you via bloglovin since I’m over at wordpress, it seems to be the easiest way to keep up with goodness. I’m so happy I decided to visit your page today. I may just have to follow you on IG as well:)

oh i love that last sentence too! when my kids were home and i got stressed i would weed-eat (we have a huge piece of property and there is always someplace that needs it). the i discovered the blower thing… and i could blow everything clean! funny how we redirect our stress. i am loving this series Kelly, so much!

thank you so much cathy! i am a firm believer that many of the the world’s problems could be solved with either a vacuum, a blower, or a pressure washer. 🙂
