October is usually a month of transition in my neck of the woods and this year was no different.

We started out the month wearing shorts and t-shirts and this morning I wrapped up in a cozy throw while drinking my coffee.
It’s a month of transition in the garden too, so I’ve been savoring every last beautiful bloom on my dahlias.

It’s always an interesting dance the way one season gives way to the next.

Lingering summer annuals sharing space with falling leaves – I love the juxtaposition of it. And speaking of falling leaves…

…this is the time of year when I bring home a handful of golden and ruby-hued leaves that I collect on my walks.

We’re still a couple weeks away from peak fall color, but I’m enjoying the little signs of things to come.

Along with the changing season, there are garden tasks (aka “farm chores) that go along with it. This weekend I’m planning to take out what’s left of my zinnias – after this morning’s light frost they are looking especially sad and withered. And Tripp’s been working very hard on getting grass to grow in the “south 40” lol.

He reworked the sprinkler and brought in some dirt before putting new fescue seed down. I was very helpful in case you were curious. <<wink>>

This time of year I tend to turn my attention to more indoor activies.

I love noticing how the light shifts and moves around the house.

Other delights in October include getting to spend time with some of my favorite people.

Harris getting ready to turn one (!!!) and he is just pure joy. Plus we got to spend time with our grand-dog while his family enjoyed a little getaway.
As we say farewell to October, I am so grateful for all of its gifts.

And I look forward with hope for all the good things yet to come.

As always, thank you for letting me share my stories with you.
Love, Kelly
