well so i don’t know about you, but here in my neck of the woods it’s still very much summer.
i know that for families with kids, once we get back into that routine, it does feel a bit like the unstructured, free-form days of summer are gone. notice that i included myself in that statement. even though i don’t technically have a child living at home that i have to get ready for school and practice math facts with, still…for me it’s a hard habit to break.
but even if you’re not a slave to the school schedule anymore, you can tell things are moving towards fall with the grocery store shelves already stocking up on halloween candy. and i just about died a couple of weeks ago when my girl and made a stop at hobby lobby for a few apartment decorations and i saw CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS going up.
i mean for the love.
one of my facebook friends shared some similar thoughts over the weekend reminding us that indeed summer is not over. and it really hit home to me. because i know for my family, we’ve been enjoying some of the best cantaloupe and watermelon that we’ve had all year. and the porter peaches are still coming in. {thank you Jesus}.
so i guess what i’m saying is that there’s still some summer left you know? there’s still time to enjoy a beautiful boat ride on the lake.
seems like the sunsets are more glorious than ever this time of year.
and there are still zinnias blooming in my garden.
my sweet little lantanas are still going strong.
we still have tomatoes ripening on the vine.
so let’s not be too quick to rush summer away. let’s savor these next few weeks. life seems to rush by at such a frenzied pace sometimes, so i am going to try to be a little more present. take a breath.
i sure hope you can too.
love, kelly
I’m one who never rushes summer or wishes it away. However, I have to confess that I love the late summer into early fall, a season of its own in my book. Our weather is not quite as frightful as yours but we’re heading for our hottest stretch of the summer … which has given us fantastic weather. Not much we can do, is there?
Fall doesn’t arrive until 4:44 pm on Sept. 22…so we can keep enjoying your beautiful summery images for a while yet!
I haven’t even begun to think about fall, it’s still too hot here. Our weather looks pretty much like yours. You have some very beautiful “late summer” images! Enjoy your last days of summer!
I’m over summer once the heat reaches triple digits. My almost 50 hear old self can’t handle the heat anymore. I adore fall and wait with such anticipation for it!! LOVE that boat pic.
Summer may not be over, but I sure wish the heat would be. Don’t like it when it is hot and dry, can’t even enjoy my porch when it gets this hot….I am complaining a little aren’t I? Sweet photos, Kelly. But I gotta admit the skies are beautiful as well as the sunsets this time of year.
July here in NY was very hot and humid, August has felt like Fall. That kind of weather has made me feel like summer is over, but I know you’re right. Be present – breathe. Good advice.
Ah, Kelly. I love your blog. Well, there’s summer and then there’s heat. If you knock down the heat, summer can stay, well, forever. Maybe not forever but for longer. Being my menopausal self (sweat rolls down my back at work, it’s very gross, and it’s air conditioned there!) I do like fall. I love fall. But I do agree with not wishing time away. Not one minute of it. We are so fortunate to have this day right in front of us. That’s the gift. The gift of this day. And that’s the message I get on your blog time after time. Rock on, you.

thank you for the beautiful reminder, kelly.
I agree… let’s hold on as long as we can. Great photos Kelly!
I’m afraid life here is in full swing, but I am working to take some time every afternoon to sit out on my new bench to just read, write, or be as I drink lemon water. I wont be able to do that once Winter hits, so it’s nice right now.
OMG it is SO HOT and humid in Houston I can hardly breathe. We treat summer here like the northerners treat winter… not going outside much. 🙂 I would love a breath of fresh cool air to inhale. I wish I could say that I’ve slowed down this summer, but why fib? Life with a 4 year old just does not slow and it definitely keeps me on my tippy toes.
I have loved all your posts and your gorgeously vibrant photos. 🙂
