See this beautiful cat of mine?
Well let me tell ya, at 4:30 this morning she was more like an annoying mosquito that I wanted to squash with a flyswatter.
Let me back up.
By now you may know that our family is pretty routine oriented and our pets are no exception. Every evening we perform the following tasks:
- Take Daisy out to pee
- Put Daisy and Riley in their kennels
and most importantly!
- Put kitty’s food bowl down.
You see, every evening we put Pumpkin’s food bowl up on the kitchen counter because in addition to the “snacks” in the litter box, the other things our dogs love about kitty is her food.
Occasionally we forget. Most of the time I’ll ask Tripp, “Dear did you remember to put kitty’s food down?” (so romantic I know), but last night he was already asleep when I got into bed. So I snuggled up beside him and went right to sleep (Thank you Jesus!). Pumpkin hopped on the foot of the bed and curled up behind my knees. Ahhh. Blissful, wonderful sleep.
Until 3:30 a.m. Because I forgot to put the food bowl down. (Apparently 3:30 a.m. is the perfect time for a midnight snack.)
Pumpkin has a very special way of letting us know that we’ve forgotten to put the food bowl down. See that stack of books by my night stand?
What she does is stand in front of the books and repeatedly paws at them with her clawless noise makers. It sounds like this – thwop..thwop..thwop..thwop. Instead of just getting up, going downstairs, and putting the food down, in my delirium I sat up and shooed her off. Five minutes later – thwop..thwop..thwop..thwop. and another “Shoo!” Five minutes later – you guess it! – thwop..thwop..thwop..thwop. This went on for probably 30 minutes. It was at this point that I threw the book on my nightstand at her.
It was a momentary cease fire.
About 15 minutes later, Pumpkin then went over to Tripp’s side of the bed…
…and sounded the alarm on the stack of newspapers in the basket. The newspapers have a very different sound at the paws of the little turd – more of a fwap..fwap..fwap..fwap.
At this point I was so pissed off that I threw the covers off the bed, said a few choice curse words, and stomped down the stairs to put the f***ing cat’s f***ing food bowl down!
I will tell you that there is a strategically placed post-it note in the kitchen this evening. And a flyswatter next to my bed just in case.
Peace, Kelly
