the pictures tell the story.

so for the past couple of weeks i’ve been working on making a photo book of our vacation to california.

i decided to go with artifactuprising.com instead of doing a traditional scrapbook for a couple of reasons. 1) i really like their design aesthetic and 2) i am so far behind in my project life album that i couldn’t bear the thought of two unfinished crafty type scrapbook projects.

at any rate, my photo book is coming along nicely…i’ll spend an hour or so here and there uploading my pictures and layouts into the sight.  it’s really easy to use which is so nice.  plus, it’s also fun to relive our vacation in pictures.

dear california…i miss you.

anyway, one of the fun things we did while on vacation was take a hike through solstice canyon.  now when i say ‘hike’ i mean taking a walk on a dirt path through the woods – not the big boots and backpack kind of hiking.

it was a gorgeous, sunny morning (like it is just about every blessed morning in california), so we set off down the trail for a little adventure.  being up in the mountains was the perfect antidote to all the time we had spent driving around in the nearby cities.  the landscape was so interesting with different kinds of native trees and flowers. and although it was really dry because of the severe drought california has been experiencing, there was still a certain kind of beauty to the trail.

nature = awesome.  always.

so fast forward now a month or so later and i was going through my pictures of our hike and i’m not even kidding, i had dozens of photos just like the one up above…pictures of tripp and kelsey walking up ahead of me.

i just had to laugh at myself.  because chances are, you could go through any of our vacation albums and find pictures just like these. it’s been like this for as long as i can remember…tripp is always first, blazing the trail.  then kelsey is right there beside him.  and then me, pulling up the rear.  taking pictures (obviously). stopping to look at the butterflies and the flowers. trying to take it all in.

this is totally us.

and this is exactly what i love about photography. because these pictures…well it’s not just about the hike.  i mean sure, they show what we did and what we saw.  but these pictures tell a story about my family.

i love that so much.

thanks for letting me share it with you.

love, kelly

    Although I’m about four books behind, I love making photo books. A month or so ago, I made one of our recent beach trip using the book module in LR that links to Blurb, which I’ve used before. Very handy to be able to edit if you see something you don’t like as your proof and I found that saving to pdf helped me make sure the colors would be to my liking when I printed. I was quite pleased. I’ve heard good things about artifact uprising, too. I think your book will be absolutely delightful and will become a family treasure. xo

    I’m like Dotti, about two books behind, but it’s on my fall project list to do. I’ve never made one before, so it should be an adventure in and of itself. Maybe I should do a book on making a photo book! ; )

    I’ve done a few photo books and their certainly fun and so much easier than scrapbooking! Love the pictures of Kelsey and Tripp. You have a lovely family!
