One of my favorite things about September is the glorious golden glow at the west end of my street.

This time of year, day and night are nearly equal in length while we (in the northern hemisphere) enjoy a temporary state of equilibrium between the Winter and Summer Solstices. And with the sun positioned directly over the Earth’s equator, the sunset is basically due west (versus being more northerly in the western sky during the summer months or more southerly in the winter).
I also love how watching the light inside my house shifts and moves with the change of seasons.

I find so much peace and comfort in the predictable rhythms of nature.

Earlier in the month we got a lovely taste of fall weather which I embraced wholeheartedly. My dahlias also appreciated a break from the oppressive heat of August.

Even the zinnias are enjoying a bit of a second wind.

As usual, once gardening seasons starts to wind down I tend to turn my attention toward projects inside. A few weeks ago a gave my kitchen countertop a little bit of refresh.

This little update also included reclaiming this corner of my kitchen where my coffee pot resides. It has always been the dropoff zone/mail pile/charging station etc, but I gave us a new basket in a different part of the kitchen for all the junk of everyday life. Every time I walk into the kitchen now, I feel a sense of calm from bringing a little more order into what is often a chaotic space.
Sidenote: I am smiling to myself as I sit here typing this post because this tends to be a recurring theme in my life.
In a month that often felt dark and heavy and hard, I am grateful for my home and my yard…a sanctuary from the chaos of the world. I am also grateful all of the little moments of light and loveliness that I am able to capture with my camera.

And I hope by sharing them, they lift your spirits as much as they did mine.

Love, Kelly
