Why yes I did watch Friends reruns while I ran on the treadmill this afternoon…why do you ask?
Well so our bedroom makeover is coming along. You know, I’m debating about what to call our little project. I mean it’s not a remodel (no walls were harmed in the updating of this bedroom), and I wouldn’t exactly call it a renovation. I mean it is, but to me renovation is more like in a kitchen where you replace all the appliances or something. So it’s not that. So I’ll stay with makeover…more than just say getting your makeup done at the mall, but’s it’s not a total facelift either. I guess you could say it’s maybe a microdermabrasion treatment paired with a little botox. Or so I would suppose.
Anyway, come on in and I’ll show you what we’ve done.
So perhaps you recall, a couple of years ago this happened, and so we had to completely gut and remodel our master bathroom. You can read all about the project here, but word of warning…some crazed lunatic hacked into my blog account and wrote these blog posts. I don’t know what was wrong with her (maybe her daughter was getting ready to graduate from high school or something) but that poor gal was just completely unhinged.
Sidenote #1 – Holy hell I can’t believe that has been two years ago. OMG where does the time go?
Sidenote #2 – Why is it that whenever we’re having construction done on our house I start to curse like a construction worker?
OK. So anyway, we are finally getting around to tackling the bedroom portion of master suite renovation. We were just going to do a few minor fixes and paint and be done with it, but of course when you have an old house, you fix one thing and it causes problems with three other things. So long story short we had to replace the old, cracked, sagging plaster ceiling.
And when I say we I mean our handy man.
Fun times!
But things are moving right along and our handyman was able to get the sheetrock up pretty quick.
So now we’re all ready to paint tonight. Yay me!
So in case you were wondering, we’ve been sleeping out in our garage apartment. Wait did I ever tell you we had a garage apartment? Well, we do. It’s above the garage naturally.
It’s where our friends and family stay usually when they come to visit. But I’ll be honest – when Tripp suggested that we sleep out there instead of the spare bedroom, I wasn’t all that excited about it. I’ve always been a little creeped out by it. Maybe that’s because when we first bought the house some weird guy lived in there. It smelled to high heavens, plus he had a semi-pornographic poster on the wall and a moldy, half-empty gallon of Head Country BBQ sauce sitting on the shelf in the kitchenette.
{{{shudder}}}
Anyway, a few years ago we completely remodeled the garage apartment. We started by ripping out all of the plaster walls and ceiling (and by we I mean Tripp) and then we hired a contractor the finish it out and put in the bathroom.
And I have to say it’s a really cute little space. Wanna see? Great!
It’s furnished with a hodge-podge of things – Tripp’s mom’s old wingback chairs and our old headboard and armoire. But it’s really cozy. And I think it has such pretty light.
It has just about everything you’d need for a long stay. Except cable.
Don’t even ask me how long my husband monkey’d with that stupid digital antenna.
Love how this cute little bathroom turned out.
See those cupboards and that countertop there? We…and yes I mean Tripp and myself… put those in. We just bought those modular cabinetry units and one of those pre-made countertops that they sell at Home Depot. Then we hauled it all up the stairs.
Sidenote #3 – Let me just tell you…since I’ve lived in the house I have hauled more heavy shit up and down the stairs. (See Sidenote #2)
One of things I like about being in the garage apartment is seeing this view of the entire backyard.
The other thing I love is this bird’s eye view of the sunrise which I think is pretty awesome.
So with that I think I’m gonna wrap this up. Tripp is upstairs with the radio blaring country music and I think there’s a can of Kilz with my name on it.
Love, Kelly

My how I love your sense of humor. Really!! I think anytime you have to move out of your own house, you can call it whatever you want. 🙂

Hi, Kelly! Just popping by. I totally get the old house thing. I do not live in an old house but my job before I retired required me to play an integral part in face lifts/rehabs/renovations … whatever … of many old structures from small homes to college dormitories and libraries … which is likely why I don’t live in an old house. Yes … in any old structure one thing leads to another … and another … and … so on. You have both my admiration for tackling this and my sympathy. It’s gonna be beautiful though. (So they say midstream.)
😀

Good luck on your makeover!! We remodeled one year and actually had a large roll of carpet sitting next to our Christmas tree! I was determined we would have a tree even if we had to keep moving it around!
